You’ve landed in your new city and you’ve got 13 weeks to explore, experience, and make this assignment unforgettable. Let’s dive into how you can turn these three months into one of the best gigs ever.

Seize the Day

First off, 13 weeks might sound like a lot, but blink and it’s over. Don’t wait until the last minute to check out your new digs. Dive into the local scene right away. Find those hidden gems and must-do activities that make your new city unique.

Find Local Events

Get the lowdown on what’s happening around town. Look for local entertainment mags—these usually pop up in places like coffee shops, bars, and grocery stores. If you’re in a larger city, there’s probably a dedicated website or social media page for local events. Follow those pages, and get in the loop. Whether it’s a food festival, concert, or quirky market, being in the know will make your assignment that much cooler. Our go-to website for finding fun activities in TripAdvisor.

Plan Your Fun

Time flies when you’re on a contract, so plan your adventures early. Schedule excursions, events, and weekend getaways ahead of time. Invite your co-workers along! Don’t let the weeks slip away without making some great memories.

Explore Beyond the City Limits

Don’t be afraid to venture outside your new city. Find out what’s within a day’s drive—maybe a quirky town, a national park, or a scenic spot for a quick getaway. Chat with locals—baristas, bartenders, and co-workers are often gold mines of information about cool spots to visit. If your schedule allows, carve out time for a few mini-vacations.

Master the 13-Week Flow

Getting into the groove of a new assignment can be a bit of a rollercoaster. Here’s a rough breakdown of what to expect:

  • Week 1: Excitement, nerves, and a whirlwind of introductions.
  • Weeks 2-4: The learning curve—figuring out the ropes and settling in.
  • Weeks 4-6: You’re hitting your stride. Time to start exploring more.
  • Weeks 6-10: Prime time for sightseeing and enjoying the city.
  • Weeks 10-13: Things might start to feel routine. Perfect time to plan your next adventure and start working with your recruiter.

Remember, don’t put things off until ‘tomorrow.’ Those 13 weeks will fly by, so make every moment count. Enjoy your travel nurse contract to the fullest!
